Top Ten Oscar Moments (Number #4-1)

4. "You like me, You really like me!" Sally Field's 1984 Best Actress acceptance speech is spontaneous, vulnerable, and simplistic. It is also the most quoted speech in Awards show history.

3. Hattie McDaniel becomes the first African-American actor to win an Oscar. Although her 1939 Best Supporting Actress acceptance speech was written for her by the studio, McDaniel's breakthrough win and her overwhelming joy is one for the ages.

2 The Streaker. Flashing more than a peace sign, a hippie runs across the Oscar stage causing presenter David Niven to comment on the man's "shortcomings." Classic.

And #1.....

Sacheen Littlefeather (an actress) steps up to the microphone and informs the audience that "Marlon Brando...has asked me to tell you that he very regretfully cannot accept this generous award. And the reasons for this being the treatment of American Indians today by the film industry." The industry is stunned, and it still is. This moment proves above all others that the Oscars are unpredictable...and that's why we still watch.

Top Ten Oscar Moments (Numbers #10-5)

To kick things off, and to celebrate next Sunday's Oscar ceremonies, we are counting down the Top Ten Oscar Moments of All-Time. And we're off....

10. The 1928 Academy Awards...the very first Oscar ceremony. Best Picture goes to "Wings."

9. Roberto Benigni wins 1998 Best Actor Oscar...Benigni's joy is infectious as he hops over rows
of seats on his way to the stage. His memorable speech, including "I would like to be Jupiter and kidnap everybody and lie down in the firmament making love to everybody!" is timeless in its symbolism of Oscar-winning joy.

8. Jack Palance does one-handed push ups during his 1991 Best Supporting Actor acceptance speech.

7. Cuba Gooding, jr. refuses to go quietly into the night during his 1996 Best Supporting Actor win. He thanks everyone from God to his agent. The crowd goes wild.

6. Rob Lowe dances with Snow White at the 1989 ceremonies. One of the most
bizarre moments in Oscar history, and one of the most disgraceful, as Disney's original princess and Lowe jam to "Proud Mary" during the opening number.

5. Crash upsets Brokeback Mountain. The 2005 Best Picture was supposed to go to Brokeback,
at least according to pundits' predictions and the myriad of awards that the groundbreaking film had won going into the big night. But at the end of the night, Jack Nicholson opens the envelope to reveal the biggest upset in Oscar history.

........Stay tuned this week for the Top Four Most Memorable Oscar Moments!
